Thyroid Cancer

BACKGROUND

Every year in the United States, over 50,000 people are diagnosed with thyroid cancer. A large majority of them are women. Due to the advancement of technology, thyroid ultrasounds can detect the cancer early so that patients may begin treatment sooner than later.

There are four types of thyroid cancer: papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer, and medullary thyroid cancer. The symptoms of thyroid cancer can include swollen lymph nodes, enlarged thyroid glands, hoarse voice, coughing, lumps on the neck, and neck and throat pain.

Traditional and conventional thyroid cancer treatments may include surgery, chemotherapy, and different forms of radiation therapy as well.
