Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal Cancer

BACKGROUND

Esophageal cancer is very challenging to detect and usually is present among persons over 60 years. The two main forms of esophageal cancer include squamous-cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. This cancer is often found in countries with a higher infrastructure and the beginning symptoms of it can seem like other conditions that are usually treated. Once the cancer cells multiply and have grown significantly, the person begins to experience more symptoms which will need to be treated as soon as possible.

EARLY SIGNS AND PREVENTION

Having trouble swallowing is one of the first signs of this type of cancer. At this point, the cancer has grown so much that it is challenging for people to eat foods. Some other symptoms may include having a hoarse voice, enlarged lymph nodes, coughing and/or vomiting blood, unaccountable weight loss and so forth.

Since the two forms of cancer differ, the triggers of what caused it share similarities. The overuse of tobacco and alcohol, drinking hot beverages and poor diet are all contributing factors of Esophageal cancer.

Quitting smoking helps tremendously to prevent the development of Esophageal cancer. Additionally, maintaining a good weight along with a proper diet high in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, bok choy, and so forth can reduce the risk. Eating foods high in fiber is also another preventative measure which persons should take as it has the potential to prevent this type of cancer.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT FOR ESOPHAGEAL CANCER

Treating this type of cancer involves an integrated and alternative approach that is unique to the patient's needs.

Conventional methods of treatment harms the patient's cells that are not cancerous and thus weakens their immune system. Over time, the patient can become physically weaker.

It is recommended that the patient keep both their immune system and body in good shape with proper nutrition which may include the use of teas, especially ginger tea. Ginger helps to combat the damage to the cells from chemotherapy. Additionally, herbs such as passionflower can be used to promote more calm in a patient's life and reduce anxiety. A diet including the anti-inflammatory root, turmeric, along with blackberries, can help to stop the growth of cancer cells. Consuming vitamins C & E along with other supplements that are high in antioxidants is beneficial to a patient with esophageal cancer.
